Canticle 245

The apostles are devastated
Christ has returned from the dead
but now he is departing again
for good
he says

Yet
he promised to send
a companion
a fire to enlighten them
guide them
accompany them
for eternity

This is where we understand
the Triune God
Father, Son, Holy Spirit

Receiving the fire
to speak to everyone
in their language
to speak to everyone
as a brother, a sister, a sibling
as an equal
to go out
and carry God’s light
throughout the world
by being a disciple
sharing
spreading
in community

The Spirit nourishes us
They liberate us
by bringing us back
to Christ
to God
They inspire in us
the action
of thanksgiving
the unique and many
gifts
that we each
possess

The Spirit impels us
to have the courage
to go
towards the Other
towards foreign lands
towards the near and the far
towards the unknown
towards ourselves
