Canticle 58
Tell me, what if I never left the desert?
I’m just as tired as you are.
I know, strangely enough,
that doesn’t help me that much,
and I feel a little guilty about it.
I really wish
that You were absolutely enough for me.
It’s not possible, you know that too.
Why? I could,
I wish I had that courage…
For what? To be nothing but a spirit?
I can hear from Your voice
that I’m getting lost
but I know You don’t hold it against me
that You allow me
doubt
tiredness
Yes, that’s the problem
when you have to wait
for others
Yet
that’s how it is
or else we
abolish
free will
and that’s
unthinkable
You’ve learned your lesson well
I had no doubt
So we sit here
and wait
just the two of us?
As if I’d abandoned you
even for a moment
Of course not
you know, maybe You should have
added endurance
to the cardinal virtues
True
